Katori is a Hindi word that means bowl. These are simple bowls or canapes. The toppings can be different, depending on your taste, or the occasion. This Chaat Katori will always be a conversation starter at your parties. Chaat Katori’s are incredibly crispy and crunchy. When you bite into them, it feels like having a party of textures and flavours. However, no chaat is fully complete without green chutney made of cilantro and mint, or a sweet chutney made of tamarind, dates, and jaggery. They give a much-desired tanginess to our crisp Chaat Katori filled with all sorts of items. Traditionally, these Chaat Katori’s are deep-fried, but I baked them. Why? The reason is as simple as this. Nowadays, people want to avoid eating fried food. So, I always think that if I can transfer something deep-fried into a healthier version, I should do it.
What Ingredients Do You Need for Chaat Katori?
I took all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, semolina flour, oil, and just a little bit of baking soda and salt. I have tried using the same quantity of whole wheat flour to reduce the use of all-purpose flour. Additionally, the semolina flour gives it a little crunch and the brushing of a little oil gives some much-needed moisture.
What Type of Filling Do You Need to Make Chaat Katori?
You can be as creative as you want to be! You can make healthy Chaat Katori’s by adding lots of sprouts, salad items like cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and sometimes boiled potatoes and chickpeas. Or, you can eat it with Chole Chaat. They are topped with at least two types of chutneys and gram flour sev or nylon sev. Lastly, pomegranate seeds, freshly chopped cilantro, and some chaat masala along with whisked sweet yoghurt will enhance the look and taste of the Katori.
Can You Store These Chaat Katoris?
Yes, you can store these Chaat Katori’s in an airtight container and keep them in the pantry. These can stay fresh for a month. Make sure they are at room temperature before storing. Otherwise, they will become soggy.
