What is the meaning of Pahadi Aloo Ke Gutke?
Potatoes are used for the Hindi words aloo and Gutke, which mean pieces. It’s a popular kumaoni dish. For people unfamiliar with India, this region is in the mountain parts of Uttarakhand. This means potato cubes are cooked (Stir-fried with basic Indian spices. Aloo Gutuk is the most common snack sold in the Kumaon region of India. Potatoes are not expensive and readily available. That is the reason Aloo ke Gutke is quite popular there.

Ingredients Needed,
Potato- typically, pahadi aloo is used. It has a unique taste and sweetness to it. However, for some reason, if you are not getting hold of it, any large potato will do. Cooking oil- Traditionally, mustard oil is used; however, for some reason, if you do not like mustard oil or it’s not available, you can use any other oil of your choice. Dry Spices—I dry roast some coriander seeds and crush them into a powder. I like them a little coarse. We are using Turmeric Powder, Red Chili Powder, and salt. Make a coarse paste of ginger, roasted coriander seeds, green chili. Cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and Asafoetida powder are essential spices we use. Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish.
